TECHNOLOGY AS ART
THREE RING CIRCUITS (3RC) also sold under the name DEBBY AREM DESIGNS, is a catalog of individually hand crafted recycled circuit board products such as unique handmade jewelry, green office products and home decor. Never before used recycled printed circuit boards (PCBs) are recycled into new and useful items that are all very smooth to the touch. All of the unique handcrafted jewelry is extremely light in weight , yet very strong and durable because circuit boards are made of an epoxy/ fiberglass composite.
PCBs are made from 'innerlayers' – paper-thin, but very strong and flexible sheets of fiberglass-epoxy upon which are deposited intricate circuits made of copper. Pure gold ( 24K ) is occasionally used as a final coating on the portions of a PCB where enhanced electrical conductivity is required, because gold is a better electrical conductor than copper.
These innerlayers are stacked and heated under pressure to produce a 3-dimensional composite. The layers are connected by "through-holes", some thinner than a human hair. Electrical conductivity between the layers is accomplished by immersing the entire board in liquid solder inside a vacuum chamber. The solder coats the insides of the holes and allows electrons to flow between the layers. A PCB is therefore a complex 3-dimensional circuit. Modern PCBs can have as many as 30 layers. Electronic components such as resistors, transistors, capacitors, etc. are attached by soldering them to the surface of a board to produce a finished product, such as the motherboard of a computer. Discarded PCBs therefore create environmentally unfriendly scrap. By recycling PCBs, THREE RING CIRCUITS (3RC) offers consumers the chance to help protect the environment, while at the same time, to acquire unique and artistic recycled circuit board products.

" I love all things bright, colourful, unique, unusual...and a bit wacky! Was soooo excited to find this unique, quirky shop ! Looove all the recycled computer bitz and pieces....soooo creative with designs. Great to see a shop that cares about the environment....using peoples throwaways......upcycling them.....giving them New Life ....ready for someone else's home :) Wouldn't it be fantastic if everyone cared so much ....and looked outside the box before throwing out their trash !!
Debby is a lovely lady to deal with :) Nothing was any trouble and she was happy to action my unusual requests to turn her pieces into wacky jewellery for me :)

I loved her circuit board designs and I contacted her about modifying an eyeglass holder in her shop into a necklace and also to make matching earrings. Debby was delighted to make them and within just a couple weeks I had my unique necklace and earrings set. My husband is quite a computer nerd. On our wedding day, he saw my wedding dress for the first time, then after the ceremony I showed him the necklace and earrings. He absolutely loved them!!! And they were the hit of the reception – everyone commented on how neat they looked. And most importantly, anyone that knows us knows that it truly showed our personality. For me it was the eclectic and bright colors, and for Sean, the love of computers and technology. I can't thank Debby enough for her wonderful designs. It truly made my wedding memorable!"
